Spring has Sprung 2014

What's it Wednesday #116

As soon as I heard the birds chirping and saw a myriad of colorful butterflies in the garden, I knew immediately that Spring had finally Sprung, so I sprung into action.

This is the time of year when friends and family arrive to thaw out. So I keep plenty of candy out to welcome them. Sweet and salt are always a big hit. This is the second batch of sweet actually. The first batch consisted of carrot cake M & Ms. Oh my goodness sinfully delicious. Now I cannot find them any where. Dove & Cadbury chocolates will just have to do. The salt comes from the sea salted pistachios.

Today was a perfect day for a Spring lunch for a few dear friends. One of them brought these gorgeous tulips which brightened up the dining room table.

Flowers are blooming all around which is the perfect reason to break out the Spring china.

I was also inspired to pick up some Peace Lilies and place them all around the house.

While at the plant nursery, I picked up a variety of impatiens and placed them in this three tiered birdcage on the front porch. The birdcage was recently purchased at Bjs. Y'all know Patty and I have a weakness for birdcages.

Succulents are plentiful this time of year as well. This arrangement was perfect for the smaller bird cage on the front porch.

Bromeliads and hibiscus are also bursting with color and add amazing color to the yard. What are some signs that "Spring has Sprung" in your neighborhood?

Bollywood Bath

What's It Wednesday #114

I decided to go Bollywood in our master bath. This way I could take advantage of all the beautiful colors and honor my husband's heritage at the same time.

This fascination for all things Indian started when I was a little girl. I received these wedding dolls from a colleague of my mother's. These dolls were brought back from India and I have been in love with them ever since. I have always said that they brought me luck...they brought me my amazing husband. They now have a place in our bathroom.

I keep these jeweled boxes on the side of the tub. They make it convenient for me to place hair pins inside.

There is nothing like a bubble bath with lavender bath salts and scented candle. My goal was to have a place of serenity.

I don't have to tell you how I feel about my elephants. These Indian elephants in silver were the perfect pair next to the tub.

My mother always told me to find a quiet place in the home to just vegetate and meditate. A place that is off limits to small children and a husband. I created this space in the water closet part of the bathroom. I have Gandhi to keep me company and grounded. A few years back, I saw Nate Berkus and he had a great idea for personal prints. He said crop a picture on the computer (I used Microsoft Word) to float in the middle of a white field (Instant Mat). I printed it out on photo paper, went to Big Lots and bought cheap frames and voila!

I recently bought my husband this antique Lassi, a traditional yogurt drink with spices, cup from Jodhpur, Rajasthan India. His toothbrush and toothpaste are held inside. Vintage and Antique Lassi cups are my newest obsession...stay tuned.

It was love at first sight when I saw this hand casted mask from India. She is perfect next to hubby's sink.

For some reason the builders decided to put a towel rack on the back of wall of the large tub. It's most inconvenient, however it was the perfect place to hang one of my saris to enhance the decor.

This Bollywood bathroom turned out to be the perfect home get-away for my husband and me.

What's your favorite get-away place in your home?

Elephant Addiction

What's It Wednesday #113

Well everyone I am happy to report that 75% of my boxes are unpacked and the move to our new home went without a hitch...as long as you don't count me getting sick, then my daughter and putting my mother in the hospital, twice. Just grateful to God that everyone is well.

Well as many of you know, yours truly has a major elephant addiction. This wooden find came from an antique dealer out of Rajastan, India which just so happened to fill three of my addictions.

This darling elephant (elephants - addiction number 1) is from early 1900's India and beautifully hand-carved.

Although I love the outside, the inside of the box (boxes - addiction number 2) is what intrigued me the most.

Once I opened the box on it's hinges I wondered how long it took to carve out all of the diamonds and holes.

Inside just got better because those holes in the top and bottom of the wooden case once held cigarettes. This satisfied another addiction (cigarette cases - addiction number 3). Yep, the non-smoker is addicted to cigarette cases.

Up In Smoke
Visit my Up in Smoke post for more on my collection of tobacciana, then you will understand my obsession.

Well I knew exactly what to do with the silver cigarette cases that I have collected over the years. However, I do not know what to do with this little guy other then add him to my elephant addiction collection.

Have you ever collected anything that really had no other purpose then what it was designed?
