All Charged Up

What's It Wednesday #200

I am all charged up because it is our 200th What's It Wednesday Linky Party. Time certainly flies when you're having fun. Speaking of being "all charged up", I am super excited to share my latest "thinking outside the box" decorating solution.

The weather has been rainy and gloomy lately and I was determined to keep the winter decor light and bright. I thought of that last year and it truly kept us from feeling blah during the winter months. My great-grandmother's table and buffet are quite dark and my husband does not like it when I place a table cloth over it. So I had to think of something.

One of my dear friends and neighbor said that she had never been to the Ikea. She is looking for organizational and storage solutions so off we went. While we were there we spotted these "chargers".

Well my dears, they aren't actually chargers at all. They are...wait for it...candle plates.

It was the perfect addition to break up the darkness of the table and lighten up the room. I couldn't even tell you how many sets of chargers I have. I just absolutely love them!

The chargers I have range from high-end silver ones I inherited from an Aunt, wooden, porcelain, stoneware, and the  cheapie plastic gold ones you find in places like Michaels during Christmas. Now I have added candle plates as chargers to my collections of chargers. Chargers have been around quite along time, in fact since the 19th century. They are also known as "under plates".

In addition to beautifying the table they have a more practical purpose of protecting your table and tablecloth from becoming dirty from the food or effected by the heat of the food. They enhance any place setting. Each one of these Skurar candle plates chargers is like a burst of cream sunshine on the table. I am so glad I visited my local Ikea with my friend. Now you know why I am "all charged up".

What has you "all charged up" lately?

New Year, New Chairs...Sorta!

What's It Wednesday #198

Happy New Year blogland family! From the beginning of the new year I started off planning organization, entertaining, and decorating projects. Of course it teeters off by the end of the summer. I wanted to buy some new garden chairs but Santa took all of my money. I did the next best thing...a refurb,  a redo, a what-ever-you-want-to-call-it, in an effort to save money and start my first project of the new year.

I had two very heavy iron chairs my Mom gave us. Once upon a time they were a beautiful dark gray. I wanted new iron chairs, but they are a bit pricey. So I ran down to my local Lowes and got sand paper, tarp, 3 cans of Valspar Outdoor Spray Paint in white, and face masks. Hubby bought seat cushions and pillows. I am so proud of him!

I first sanded down each chair. Truth be told I went to Lowes twice. I initially bought 1 can of spray paint thinking that would be more than enough. It took a can and a 1/2 for each chair. Once the sanding was completed, I spray painted the chairs and voila.

We are surrounded by beautiful nurseries and farms. My son and daughter chose these beautiful orchids to hang from the tree near the nearly new garden chairs. Wish me luck with those please. I really don't have a green thumb when it comes to orchids but they will be my 2016 challenge.

By the way, apparently I am accident prone because the other day I accidentally fell inside a Home Goods and then accidentally found a metal garden table and brought it home. Perfect project companion.

What projects are you starting off the new year with? I am looking for more trouble to get into.
